Nintendo Accounts / My Nintendo Support

    • How do I create a Nintendo Account?

Important: The ability to use a Nintendo Network ID to sign in to an existing Nintendo Account or to create a new Nintendo Account has been discontinued. We apologise for any inconvenience

A Nintendo Account is required to use certain services from Nintendo, such as off-device game purchases and the My Nintendo loyalty program.

A Nintendo Account can be linked to your Nintendo Network ID, Facebook, Twitter, Google, or Apple accounts. (Only users age 13 and older can link to social media accounts.)

There are some additional age-related requirements for Nintendo Accounts:

      • Users aged 13 or older can create a Nintendo Account.

    • I want to create an account, but I am not 13 years of age. What do I do?

Currently, a Nintendo Account is only offered to users who are at least 13 years of age. We plan to enable younger users to enjoy a Nintendo Account in future.

    • Is it possible to link multiple Nintendo Network IDs to a single Nintendo Account?

      No, unfortunately that isn't possible.

You can only link a single Nintendo Network ID to a single Nintendo Account.

    • I tried to create a Nintendo Account, but I got a message saying "The email address you have entered is already registered. Registration cannot be completed."

Only a single email address can be linked to one Nintendo Account. If the email address you have entered is already registered, it cannot be used again.

    • When I try to sign in to my Nintendo Account from my smartphone, the site returns to a pre-sign-in state immediately. What should I do?

Your smartphone may have settings that prevent it from saving cookie files (for example, it may be operating in privacy mode). If this is the case, disable any such settings and try signing in again.

    • I created a new account, but I haven't received a email with the verification code. What should I do?

If you haven't received the email, then wait a little while and try again. Or, try the following:

      • Check that the email address that you provided is correct.
      • Check your junk folder to see if the email has been delivered there.
      • Check the email rejection settings of your email service to see if emails from "no-reply@accounts.nintendo.com" are being rejected.
      • Check that the address that you provided hasn't already been used to create an existing account.
    • Can I sign up for a Nintendo Account even if I don't own a Nintendo device?

Yes, you can create a Nintendo Account even if you don't own a Nintendo system.

You can sign up on the Nintendo Account creation page: https://accounts.nintendo.com/register

The information in this article can help when you are unable to sign in to a Nintendo Account using an iOS device, such as an iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

Important: We have removed the ability to create or sign in to a Nintendo Account via Facebook, Google, Twitter, or Apple accounts from an iOS Nintendo app in compliance with iOS App Store review guidelines. It is only possible to sign in using your Nintendo Account e-mail address and password on an iOS Nintendo app.

In order to sign in to your Nintendo Account on a Nintendo mobile app (like Mario Kart Tour) when using an iOS device, you must use your Nintendo Account e-mail address and password. You may have set up these credentials when you initially created your Nintendo Account, but if you have previously only used an alternate sign-in method (Facebook, Google, Twitter, or Apple account), you can set your e-mail address and password through the Nintendo Account website on any internet browser.

    • I'm having trouble linking my Nintendo Account to my Nintendo Network ID.

Linking a Nintendo Account to a Nintendo Network ID is not possible in the following cases:

      • The Nintendo Network ID belongs to a user who is under 13 years of age.
      • The country information registered to the Nintendo Network ID does not match with information registered to the Nintendo Account.
      • The use of the Nintendo Network ID from PCs and other devices is restricted in the Nintendo Network ID settings.
    • How can I change the linked Nintendo Network ID?

First, you have to remove the link between your Nintendo Account and your current Nintendo Network ID under "Linked Accounts" after signing into your Nintendo Account.

If you sign in using the sign-in data of a Nintendo Network ID, you have to create new sign-in data before disabling the link. This can be done by linking your Nintendo Account to a different external account or by adding a password to your Nintendo Account. To add a password, go to "Password" in the menu after signing in.

Then you have to sign out from your Nintendo Network ID.

After that, you can return to the Nintendo Account settings and link your Nintendo Account to another Nintendo Network ID from "Linked Accounts".

    • How can I remove the link between my Nintendo Account and an existing external account?

You can remove the link between your Nintendo Account and an external account by going to "Linked Accounts" after signing in to your Nintendo Account.

If you sign in to your Nintendo Account using the login data of such an external account, you have to create new Nintendo Account sign-in data before disabling the link. This can be done by linking your Nintendo Account to a different external account or a Nintendo Network ID, or by adding a password to your Nintendo Account. To add a password, select "Password" after signing in.

    • How can I remove the link between my Nintendo Account and my Nintendo Network ID?

You can remove the link between your Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID by going to "Linked Accounts" after signing in to your Nintendo Account.

If you sign in to your Nintendo Account using a Nintendo Network ID, you have to create new Nintendo Account sign-in data before disabling the link. This can be done by linking your Nintendo Account to a different external account or by adding a password to your Nintendo Account. To add a password, select "Password" after signing in.

    • What are the differences between a primary and non-primary Nintendo Switch Console?

The first time you use your Nintendo Account to connect to the Nintendo Switch eShop, the Nintendo Switch console you use will be activated as the primary console for your Nintendo Account. After you have designated your Nintendo Account's primary console you can still link that account to other Nintendo Switch consoles, but these consoles will not be activated as primary consoles.

When using the primary console, any user on that device can play downloadable content you have purchased. You are also not required to connect online prior to using downloadable content on your primary console (an Internet connection is required to use online features or games which require a subscription service).

If you deactivate your primary console, the next time you use your Nintendo Account to connect to Nintendo eShop on a Nintendo Switch console, that console will become your Nintendo Account's primary console.

To verify whether a console is the primary console for your Nintendo Account, check the "Primary Console Status" in your Nintendo eShop Account Information.

      Key Points:

      Primary Console:

      • You can have one primary console at a time for your Nintendo Account.

      • The first Nintendo Switch console you use to connect to Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch will become your primary console.

      • While using the primary console, any user account on the console can play the downloadable content you have purchased.

      • While using the primary console, you do not need to have an active Internet connection while playing downloadable software.

        • An Internet connection is still required to use online features or games which require a subscription service.

      • You can change which Nintendo Switch console is your primary console, but you must first deactivate the current primary console.

      Non-Primary Console:

      • A Nintendo Account can be linked to Nintendo Switch consoles that are not designated as the primary console, however, some functionality differs from when a Nintendo Account is used on a primary console.

      • While using a non-primary console, you can still use the Nintendo Account to access the Nintendo eShop, purchase and download software, and under certain conditions, play your downloadable software.

      • While using a non-primary console, you must have an active Internet connection to play downloadable content.

        • If you lose your Internet connection while playing downloadable content on a non-primary console, your game will pause after a certain amount of time; however, once you connect online again, you will be able to resume from the point you left off.

      • While using a non-primary console, downloadable content can only be started by the user that purchased the content.

      • When using downloadable software on a non-primary console, your game will pause if your Nintendo Account is used to access downloadable software on any other Nintendo Switch console.

      How It Works:

      Activating your primary console:

      1. Link a Nintendo Account to your Nintendo Switch console.

      2. Access the Nintendo eShop and select your Nintendo Account.

      3. If the Nintendo Account does not already have an active console, this console will become the primary console for your Nintendo Account.

Making a different console the primary console:

      1. Access the Nintendo eShop on your primary console and deactivate the console for your Nintendo Account from the user menu.

        • If you do not have access to the original console, you can also deactivate a primary console off-device once per year.

        • Off-device deactivations can be done by visiting accounts.nintendo.com, selecting "Shop Menu", and then "Deregister Primary Console".

      2. On the second Nintendo Switch console, use the same Nintendo Account to access the Nintendo Switch eShop. This is now the activated console for your account.
    • What is the Purpose of Linking a Nintendo Account to Nintendo Switch?

Each individual player on Nintendo Switch can create their own user account (up to 8 per system), to manage personal settings and save data.

      • Use any applications that require Internet access (including Nintendo eShop)

      • Use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls application to manage parental controls through your smart device

    • How to Combine Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID Funds

Instructions on combining the fund balance between a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Network ID (NNID) for the Nintendo eShop.

      Important:

      • Once the balances are combined, they can’t be separated.

      • If you unlink an NNID after combining funds, the funds will remain with the Nintendo Account. The money will not be accessible through the NNID if it is unlinked from the Nintendo Account.

      Additional Information:

      • Merging the funds between a Nintendo Account and NNID will allow you to share your Nintendo eShop balance between your Nintendo Switch, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS family systems.

      • Once the funds are combined, the balance will be shared for as long as the NNID and Nintendo Account are linked together. Adding funds on one system will automatically make the money available to the others.

      • This is optional for on-device purchases. You can also keep your Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID balances separate if you’d prefer.

      Complete These Steps:

      1. Link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account using a PC or smart device.

      2. Select “Nintendo eShop” on the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu to launch the Nintendo eShop.

      3. Select the account you want to use.

      4. Select the picture of your icon in the upper-right corner to access your Account Information.

      5. Select “Merge Funds from Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.”
        • If this option doesn’t appear, it means that the NNID currently linked to your Nintendo Account has already been merged to your account.

      6. Read through the information, then select “Merge Funds.”
        • If you see “Next” instead of “Merge Funds,” you don’t currently have an NNID linked to your Nintendo Account. You will need to link an NNID, then try again.

      7. Enter your Nintendo Account password, then select “Send.”

      8. The current balances from your Nintendo Account and NNID will appear. Select “Merge Funds” to combine them together.

      9. Your balances will be merged together. Select “OK” to return to the “Add Funds” menu.
